SECRETS OF CASTLE ROWLEY

Annabel Barlow isn’t interested in handsome princes or fairytale weddings—all she wants is to curl up with a good book.

When unexpected events turn her world upside down, she enlists the help of new friends— a clever one-eyed woodcarver, a confident laundress, a sullen baron’s son, and a cheeky maid. A romance blossoms, and amidst the unfolding adventure, the group uncovers dark secrets lurking in the castle’s past.

But as the pages turn and the die is cast, she must decide if unraveling the mystery is worth the risk.

“Once more unto the breach,” whispered Annabel to herself under her breath. “Henry the Fifth.” She took a deep breath and, with a flourish, signed her name on the wedding contract.

”Y'all. I don't even know where to start, and there just aren't enough words to describe how much I loved this book! Lockwood masterfully weaves together the mystery and romance aspect of this novel, creating such a captivating storyline that kept me hooked from beginning to end. Readers will come for the riddles and solve them along with the characters, unearth secrets kept in the dark, and stay until the very end. The characters are dimensional and well-developed, adding depth to the plot and making it impossible for me to put the book down!!”

This book begins in medieval times with Annabel and her mother Arva arriving at Castle Rowley. Annabel is to be married to a tenant farmer named Richard Granger that very day. After the wedding, she spends the rest of the day cleaning her new home and the night without her bridegroom. Annabel gradually learns from various servants and workers at Castle Rowley that there are many secrets that the castle has and that it is believed that the castle is haunted!

The book continues with Annabel trying her best to be positive and independent in many daunting and harrowing situations. Find out if she can find true love and solve the mysteries at the Castle! I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book as well as the mysteries.

I really wanted Annabel to find true love and this book did not disappoint. The ending of this book was also very satisfying. I would like to read the subsequent books in this series and go back to the world of Annabel and Castle Rowley again!

I quite enjoyed this book.
I don’t know if it was supposed to be humorous but I got quite a kick out of it. Great cast of characters. Well written.

The book starts out with a wedding but the groom is an awful man. He has had a wife sentenced to a dungeon, but she gets rescued. The Baron is an evil man also.

You should read this book to see how it all gets resolved!

About the Author,

Matilda Lockwood

As a passionate reader and historical romance author, I find joy in crafting stories that blend love with echoes of the past. My bookshelf is a treasure trove of diverse genres, from historical fiction to humor, and lately a large stack of non-fiction about life in the 17th century.

In my books, you’ll meet cinnamon roll heroes, astute heroines, and a cast of quirky, flawed characters. Expect a few mysteries, hidden passageways, and interesting libraries. “Secrets of Castle Rowley” marks the first entry in the three-part Rowley Family Romance series, with “Treasures of Castle Rowley” and “Baroness of Castle Rowley” to follow in 2024.

When I’m not reading, I’ll often be frying up fresh eggs from our chickens, crafting something new with my daughter, or taking a rocky beach walk to sketch one of my characters. My goals for 2024 include publishing three more books, learning to drive at almost 40, and taking watercolor classes.
